Flukt immerses us in its “Omen of Darkness”
Flukt are capable, through the eight tracks of “Omen Ov Darkness”, to create a solid blend of two of the major schools of
black metal sound from Scandinavia
Hello Flukt! How are you? A pleasure to be able to interview you.
Flukt: Hello and thanks for the interview. We are fine, thanks for asking.
The band emerged in mid-2014, so you’ve been around for almost a decade now. How did the idea of creating the band come up?
A.Ø: I started Flukt back in the summer of 2014, together with Øyvind Neset. Flukt was a side project to my other bands at that time. We wanted to play and perform old school and dynamic Black Metal.
Who are its current members and which previous bands do they come from?
A.Ø — Vocals and guitars (Terror Machine, ex Cyanide)
O.K.F — Guitars (Kaos Manifest, ex Cyanide)
S.E — Bass, backup vocals (Searching the Architect, You suffer, ex Cyanide)
F.H — Drums (Kaos Manifest, ex Cyanide)
Let’s go into more details. No doubt being a Norwegian band it was obvious that black metal will always be the first musical genre everyone thinks of and Flukt went for it. Is it a Norwegian hallmark that all bands go for this genre?
A.Ø: No, I don’t think so. For us this kind of music came naturally. We have our inspirations, both musically and outside of the music.
In your case you went for black metal, but the old school kind, the kind that is not suitable for all ears. Why did you decide to go for this one?
Flukt: Old school Black Metal with a touch of more modern extreme metal feel natural for us. This is not something we decided to do. When we compose music, we just go with the flow and follow our (basic) instincts.
Could you mention us the main influences of the band?
A.Ø: I guess you are thinking about the musical influences? For Flukt, I have to say Norwegian bands like early Darkthrone, Mayhem, Burzum, Throne of Katarsis. Among other bands like Marduk, Morbid Angel and Deicide.
Now at the end of October comes out the second musical work of the band titled “Omen ov Darkness” and let me tell you that without any doubt it is pure darkness, the ultimate terror… Up with those horns!!! How was the editing and recording process?
Flukt, Thank you! We recorded most of the album in our rehearsal room/home studio. The vocals were recorded at Motstrøm studio. Audun Grønnestad at Mayhem music studio did an amazing job with the mixing and mastering.
How many songs does it include and what it is about?
A.Ø: The album contains 8 tracks. Thematically the lyrics (in general) dwells around tales from WW2, ancient religious myths, old occult tales and self-destructiveness. We use both Norwegian and English languages in our lyrics.
Do you have any audiovisual material?
A.Ø: Our label Dusktone have released two stream videos from the “Omen ov Darkness” album. Where one is a lyric video.
Where is it possible to get a copy?
A.Ø: Digital only.
I suppose you are now working on the promotion and diffusion of this new album. How do you plan to promote it?
A.Ø: This time around our label Dusktone is doing most of the promotions.
Have you already planned the presentation shows?
Flukt: We are working on live gigs for 2024. We have no plans for 2023.
How do you think it will be received, in general, both by the public and by the specialized press?
A.Ø: So far, the feedback in the press/webzines has been very good. We have received a lot of messages/e-mail from people who are interested in all aspect of the band. So that is something we appreciate a lot.
Back to the band. Next year you will be celebrating a decade of creation. How do you feel about it?
A.Ø: It does not feel like a decade already.
Do you think you have accomplished your goals as a band?
A.Ø: Both yes and no. Yes, Flukt was a side project in the beginning. But it became our main band in short time. The band has released two full length albums on Dusktone. Which is huge for us. But no, we still want to do more. Play more gigs and make more music. We are writing new materials at the moment.
How do you plan to celebrate these first ten years of existence?
Flukt: We must see what the future brings. No specific plans yet.
Well Flukt, that’s all. Thank you for your time and wish you all the best of luck and success in your career. Before we finish, something you want to say.
Flukt: Thank you for the interview. Support the local underground by go to shows and buy music!
