Directly from Knoxville, Tennessee and with more than ten years in the making, Shallowpoint has made a name for themselves in the music scene in that city. Despite not producing music for quite some time now, the band is currently working on releasing their next album in 2022. Heather Shallowpoint, the band’s bassist, told us about these and other details. By: Alejandro Pèrez.

Hi Shallowpoint! How are you? It’s a pleasure to interview you.How has the pandemic been going for you?

The pandemic was really hard on us. We had it all together, ready to go play live shows and every single show we had for the year was either rescheduled 3 times or cancelled all together. We finally gave it up and laid low for the year, worked on a new music video for one of our newer songs called “Tell Me”. I think things are finally straightening out some with the pandemic and that we will hopefully be able to move on as a band.

I understand that the band emerged in 2008, so it has been created for more than 10 years.

Yes, we’ve been around every bit that long, probably a bit longer actually, as I consider our emergence happened with the release of our first album “Infringement” which was written a year before it was actually recorded.

How did the idea of creating the band come up?

Well, it came about naturally for us, as a husband/wife team whom are musicians and our friends were musicians, so naturally a band formed.

Who are its current members?

We have Heather Shallowpoint on bass guitar, Chuck Point on vocals/guitar and Matt Shallow on drums. We are in the middle of a brand new guitarist, but we have not released his name to the world yet, but we’re very excited about him, so stay tuned!

What are the band’s influences?

I have to say that this band is extremely multi influenced, everyone who is or ever has played with us all liked just about every kind of music there is, so it’s really hard to pin point any particular influences.

How would you define your musical style?

I would say we’re best described as rock/metal genre. Probably leaning more on the side of hard rock. There are so many genres and sub genres out there and labels these days, so I’m lost with all of that.

Regarding your musical works, I was researching and since 2017 (I understand) you have not released any more albums. What is the reason for this?

I believe our latest EP “Fractured” was released in 2019, we did release the single “Fractured” off of it sometime before then, but I do not remember the exact date.

Has there been any impediment?

Yeah, all sorts of impediments, all the time! Lol late in 2019 our guitarist quit the band. In early 2020 we had found a new guitarist named Dustin, and then early 2020 the pandemic stuff happened. We pretty much just gave up at that point. Dustin later had a car accident and injured his hand, so he recently had to leave the band due to that.

Recently the band signed with RFL Records. How do you feel about this?

We are beyond thrilled and excited to be able to work with RFL Records, it has been a long-time dream to be able to be a signed band. And they have been amazing to work with, I can’t say enough nice things about them, it’s like a family and I love it!

What advantages will you have working with RFL?

They have way more experience with social media and the music industry as a whole than we do. They are also really good at motivating us and pushing us in the right direction and keeping us excited about the future! It really means a lot to us to have people behind us who believe in us.

Back to the band.I understand that you are currently working on a new album for 2022.Could you give us details?

We have a few songs written, and more to come for sure! We intend to spend the whole winter writing. Hoping to have it recorded by late spring of 2022.

What stage is it in?

Still in the early stages for sure.

Will it be released through RFL?

Yes, it will be released through RFL Records worldwide.

Regarding the band’s future plans. Do you have any upcoming shows planned?

Being that the pandemic has been an issue, we really have not scheduled any upcoming shows. We are pretty much just hoping the best for next year and doing a release and tour of the new album next year.

Do you have any other plans?

Just writing, recording and getting ready for live shows. You can bet we will be hard at work on all of it this winter.

Well Shallowpoint. That’s it. Thank you for your time and just wish you the best of luck. Before we finish, anything you would like to say.

Thank you for your time as well! We truly appreciate it.
